In this city, you’ll find a variety of attractions to soak up the festive charm. Moscow has an enormous amount of natural space, nearly 100 parks and garden. In particular the 18th-century landscaped park at Kuzminki can be spectacular this time of year.
Here you can find Ded Moroz (“Grandfather Frost”), who is the Russian Father Christmas. Amongst the frozen lakes you’ll find wooden cottages and carved animals. These include figures of Ded Moroz and his granddaughter, Snegurochka, the snow maiden.
At the WTs (All-Russian Exhibition centre) you’ll find a variety of beautiful sights. There are delicately constructed pavilions and ornate fountains representing a colourful pastiche of styles. In this two kilometre complex, you’ll also find an ice rink, and plenty of quirky and fascinating museums, shops and rides hidden away.
If you’re looking for something absolutely unique and wintery, try heading to the island of Serebryany Bor, which translates to Silver Pine Forest. Here you’ll find people who refer themselves as Walruses, swim in holes in the ice. If you’re brave and adventurous, and really want to feel winter to the bone, then give it a shot!
